Facilities & Amenities
Q: Can we empty grey water/waste?
A: Unfortunately, we do not have waste disposal facilities on-site.
Q: Do you have electricity available?
A: Yes, we have electric hookups in two fields. These are available for an additional £5 per night.
Q: Are there set pitches or pitch numbers?
A: Other than the electric hookup areas, we take a free-range approach—find a spot in the field you have booked that suits you best!
Q: Can we charge our phones on-site?
A: There are free charging points on the side of the shower block and in front of the canteen.
Q: Is Wi-Fi available?
A: No, we do not have Wi-Fi on-site—perfect for a digital detox!
Q: Do you have toilets and showers?
A: Yes! We have compost toilets and hot water showers. Shower tokens, available from the canteen, cost £1 for 3 minutes of hot water. Cold water showers are free.
Q: Where can we wash our dishes?
A: There are four sinks in Sweet Hill Pasture. At present, they only have cold water, but all are drinking water. We are still awaiting planning permission for our new toilet & sink areas.
Q: Can we park next to our tent?
A: Yes! Please park responsibly to allow space for other campers. When you arrive, we can illustrate on our maps how to park to make the best use of space.
Camping & Bookings
Q: Do you allow touring caravans?
A: Unfortunately, our licence here does not allow touring caravans. We allow campervans, motorhomes, tents, tent boxes & converted vans.
Q: Do you allow dogs?
A: Yes, we love furry visitors! Pets must be kept on a lead, and there is a £3 per night fee per pet.
Q: How do I book a stay?

Q: Can I book for a group?
A: Groups of more than four people need to make separate bookings, but don’t worry—you can still pitch together.
Q: Is there a minimum or maximum stay?
A: There is no minimum or maximum stay, except for bank holiday weekends, when we may require a two-night minimum.
Q: What if my friends arrive separately—can we still camp together?
A: Yes! Since we don’t have allocated pitches, you can find a suitable spot when they arrive.
Q: What do we do if we arrive late?
A: If you’re arriving outside our office hours, please get in touch with us in advance for directions to your field.
Q: Do you offer refunds?
A: We don’t offer refunds but can reschedule your booking or credit it for a future stay.
Food & Drink
Q: Do you sell food on-site?
A: Yes! Our canteen serves breakfast, lunch, and hot dinners on event weekends. We also offer hot drinks, milkshakes, smoothies, and homemade cakes.
Q: When is the canteen open?
A: Opening times vary by season—check the sign at the canteen for current hours.
Exploring the Area
Q: Where’s the nearest pub?
A: The Eight Kings is just a 5-minute walk down the hill.
Q: How can I get to the campsite from the train station?
A: Take the number 1 bus from Weymouth to Portland, get off at Sweet Hill Lane, and walk up the hill. Buses run every 15 minutes.
Q: How do I get into Weymouth?
A: The number 1 bus stops at the bottom of the hill and goes directly to Weymouth.
Q: Where’s the nearest beach?
A: Church Ope Cove is a 30-minute coastal walk or a 5-minute drive. Chesil Beach is a 10-minute drive.
Q: How do I get to Portland Bill?
A: Walk to the top of The Far Away Field and go through the gate to the coastal path. It’s about a 15-minute walk. By car, follow the road down the hill, turn right, then right again, and right at the roundabout by The Eight Kings.
Q: Where is the nearest supermarket?
A: There’s a Co-op (5-minute drive/25-minute walk) and a Tesco (7-minute drive/35-minute walk).
Fires & Equipment
Q: Can we have a fire or BBQ?
A: Yes, as long as they are raised off the ground. Firepits are available to rent for £5 (note: no grills for cooking).
Q: Do you sell firewood?
A: Yes, we sell firepits, logs, and kindling for £5 each.
Q: Where’s the nearest shop for camping gear?
A: Mountain Warehouse, Trespass, and Halfords in Weymouth (6 miles away).
Activities
Q: Can I go horse riding?
A: Yes! Sue at Chesil Equestrian offers rides starting at £30 per hour. You can contact her at 07976 661838.
Q: Where’s the nearest climbing spot?
A: The Hangout indoor climbing gym is a 5-minute walk away. Outdoor climbing is available all over the island.

Q: What are the campsite rules?
A: Our T&Cs are included when booking and are also on the back of the campsite maps.
Q: How do I check in and out?
A: Check-in at the canteen, our wooden cafe, where you’ll get a car hanger and site info. If arriving late, contact us beforehand. Check-out is by 10:30 AM.
Q: Which field is best for tents?
A:
- Sunrise Patch & Sammy’s Paddock – Most sheltered from the wind.
- Sweet Hill Pasture – Closest to toilets and sinks.
- Far Away Field – Exposed but has the best views.
- Mollie’s Meadow & Sammy’s Paddock – Electric hookups available.
Q: Are all water stations safe for drinking?
A: Yes! All our water stations provide drinking water.
