CAMPING INFORMATION

Nearly Wild Camping on the Isle of Portland, Dorset

Experience nearly-wild camping on the rugged and beautiful Isle of Portland, Dorset, a place of wide-open skies, dramatic coastline and nature at its most elemental. By day, watch kestrels hover over the cliffs, spot owls drifting across the fields, and wander through landscapes dotted with wildflowers. By night, Portland’s zero light pollution offers incredible stargazing beneath vast, unspoilt skies.
We keep camping simple here, in a way that protects the land and lets nature lead the experience. Each field is equipped with cold-water taps and handcrafted compost toilets (we always recommend bringing your own loo roll). Hot showers cost £1 for 3 minutes, a welcome bit of comfort after a windswept coastal walk or a dip in the sea.

New: Horsebox Sauna, Cold Plunges & Fire Circle

Alongside the camping fields, we’ve created a peaceful wellness area designed to help you slow down and reconnect with the elements. Here you’ll find:
  • A converted horsebox sauna
  • Cold-water plunge baths for invigorating contrast therapy
  • A sheltered fire circle — perfect for grounding after a day exploring
  • A tranquil studio space for movement, breath-work and small-group sessions
This space is simple, natural and unique to Sweet Hill Farm. Whether you’re unwinding after a hike, starting your morning with breath-work, or sharing a fire under the stars, it’s a beautiful way to deepen your stay on Portland.
Sessions are to be booked in advance, and availability is updated regularly on our Experiences or Sauna web pages.

Explore Portland on Horseback

Sweet Hill Farm is also home to a working riding school. Guests can book guided horse rides to experience Portland’s cliffs, tracks and open countryside from a whole new perspective.
To arrange a ride, please get in touch with Sue on 07976 661 838 or visit chesilequestrian.co.uk.

A True Back-to-Nature Camping Experience

Part of the charm of Portland is the weather, it can be wild and dramatic. Expect big skies, fresh sea winds and a feeling of genuine connection to the outdoors. This is real camping: simple, honest and close to nature, so don’t forget to check the weather before coming and bring the appropriate gear!
